BENDING

I called professional chassie builder Bengt Wittander at Competition Cars in
Lund and he was willing to
help me with my roll bar and crossmember.

Bengt uses a hydraulic assisted
pipe bender. The more experienced a chassie builder is with the bender
the better result of course. Pipes in different metal and sizes swing back differently
when the pressure is
put off and often you only got one go! Very important is also to measure the
angle so both legs of the
main hoop are parallel. Measuring is 90 % of the work time here.

Bengt uses a pre-bent ruler so he can see where the bends have to be located.
The cardboard just tells
where the optimal place for the roll bar is and Bengt makes it as close as possible.
After a full days work the cardboards have been transformed to a roll bar with
a perfect fit for Impala SS!
It's not only my roll bar kit in here, it is also my new transmission cross
member. And a Syclone roll bar
that I helped a guy with.

It's truly a wonderful feeling when you finally see the cardboard transformed
to steel - and it fits. In fact
it salutes the Artist in You! I knew I had to work on the domelight a little
in order to place the main bar
where I wanted it. You'll see exactly what I did on the page: LAST THINGS

Now the hard work begins. Hours and hours of measuring, cutting, grinding and
using the files!
And it's positive to know some good MIG and TIG welders...

Look what I found under the floor mat in my Impala SS! Beautiful smile isn't
it!? I put it back again.
