4-POINT SAFETY BELTS
Stroud always comes like
a 5-point harness but I'm not interested in cutting a hole in the middle of
the
Impala SS seat for this center strap - until I must. And I won't be interested
even then!
Latch type is easy. I decided to have a safety belt kit in both front seats.
This is the hardware that
is included in a belt kit. These things are great for the mounting on the
tunnel sides of the seats. But on the door sides I found a way to use the same
mounting places
that already were in use!
(Driver's side, photo from
backseat). Just search the industry for good quality loop bolts with 12 mm
threads which is what GM used here. Then let the scout in you come out and cut
bigger holes in the
plastic cover with a sharp knife, to give place for both the GM belt and the
new Safety belt.
There you go! Looks like Arlington to me. Since I'm legally driving my SS in
traffic I wanted to keep
the GM belts for an easier daily use and to have a chance to pass the yearly
inspection.
Tunnel side mounting - on
passenger's left side. Seat is out for a better view.
And excuse me for showing the heavily Tectyled tunnel, it wasn't me!
Axle straps are secured individually
in crossbar. It is important that this point is lower - at least not
higher - than the driver's axle height to reduce the risk of bodies escaping
to the backseat.
